World Rare Disease Day is an international advocacy effort to increase awareness for rare diseases and present rare diseases as a global health problem. It is an annual event established by EURODIS, the European Rare Disease Organization. This year, the National Organization for Rare Diseases (NORD) is collaborating with EURODIS to sponsor the event in the United States. Rare Disease Day is celebrated on the last day of February and this year it will be celebrated on February 29th, 2012. The University of Notre Dame’s Center for Rare and Neglected Diseases will be hosting a dinner in honor of World Rare Disease Day. We have invited students, faculty, and staff to how we can move forward to increase awareness for rare diseases and most effectively utilize the Rare Health Exchange student collaborative.
